In the Universal Postal Union’s 2024 world ranking, among 192 post offices in the world, Ukrposhta achieved a rating of 8 with 72.7 points out of 100. A year ago, the rating was 6, and the points were 51.3. This was announced by the head of Ukrposhta Ihor Smelyansky, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

According to him, due to this jump, Ukrposhta was included in the list of countries with the greatest improvement from year to year.

Ihor Smelyansky explained that the rating from 8 to 10 is an assessment of the best post offices in the world. In particular, the rating of 8 is given to the post offices that provide citizens with a comprehensive product offer that allows the country to achieve economic development.

How the postal rating is formed

The Universal Postal Union rating consists of 4 indicators.

1. Reliability – quality and speed of delivery. Here, Ukrposhta increased from 82.6 to 91. And it is even slightly ahead of the US, Canada and Spain and is catching up with colleagues from Germany, Japan and Australia.

2. Delivery geography – the volume of international mail, import and export. Here, the result improved 3 times – from 31.6 to 87.9.

3. Business model compliance – this refers to the adaptability of different business models. This indicator showed a 2-fold increase – from 9.9 to 21.9.

4. Business model sustainability is the ability to withstand shocks in the economy and politics. Another improvement – from 78.1 to 85.4.

Ihor Smelyansky, Ukrposhta CEO, is pleased that this rating was compiled before 100% sorting automation, before the creation of a bank and a pharmacy, before the complete digitalization of all processes.

“So this year we plan to reach the maximum rating of 9, and maybe even all 10. These are the tasks we have to set for ourselves,” the official said.

As a result, Ukrposhta has 72.7 points and a place among the top 50.

What about the fulfillment of plans and revenues

“In the fourth quarter of 2024, Ukrposhta increased its net income by 11.5% compared to last year’s figure to UAH 3.59 billion, earning a net profit of UAH 97.7 million for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion. According to Open4Business, this is stated in an interim report on the company’s website.

“Net income from the sale of products (goods, works, services) for the fourth quarter of 2024 amounted to UAH 3,591.6 million, which is UAH 262.3 million, or 6.8% less than planned and UAH 370.9 million, or 11.5% more than the actual data for the fourth quarter of 2023,” the report says.

It is reported that the failure to fulfill the revenue plan is due to the fact that Ukrposhta was unable to provide services in full in the regions where hostilities are taking place and in the temporarily occupied territories.

At the same time, a number of basic services have seen an increase in sales, which has made it possible to ensure revenue growth compared to the same period last year.

It is noted that during the fourth quarter of 2024, Ukrposhta received 22.7 million pieces of written correspondence, 13.3 million parcels and 23.3 million payments for domestic and international shipments.

It is also noted that in the fourth quarter, Ukrposhta ensured the fulfillment of its debt obligations to creditors. In addition, at this time, it was completing the transition to a new centralized structure without separate branches and continued to work on the implementation of strategic investment projects, the key of which are transition to mobile branches in rural areas (with the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development); automation of mobile branches, which will allow Ukrposhta to fully automate its network, etc.

In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrposhta plans to launch a new mobile client application.
