The situation with energy supply in Ukraine may improve in the coming days. However, this will be due only to a drop in air temperature, Ruslan Slobodian, head of the State Energy Supervision Service, said on the air of a national telethon, reports [Kommersant].

“First of all (there will be an improvement – ed.), due to the normalisation of temperature conditions, which are now above the climatic norm. As soon as they become closer to normal, the volume of the introduced schedules is expected to decrease,” Slobodian said.

According to him, the situation with power outages should also be improved by emergency repair works, which continue around the clock.

Situation in Ukraine’s power system on 16 July

On the night of 16 July, equipment at one of the power facilities broke down, which further increased the energy deficit in the system. Therefore, at 10:00 a.m., Ukrenergo ordered emergency blackouts in Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Dnipro, and Kirovohrad regions.

According to the Ministry of Energy, this is a consequence of enemy shelling in Dnipropetrovska oblast, which damaged the equipment of one of the power facilities. This led to a power outage for household consumers and an industrial enterprise. Consumers have been supplied with electricity.

Also in the Dnipropetrovs’k region, an overhead line was disconnected due to shelling, which led to a power outage at a substation, household consumers and local industry.

In addition, Ukraine is experiencing an abnormal heat wave. This is making the situation even more difficult.

Over the past 24 hours, Ukraine has additionally requested emergency assistance from Poland to partially cover the shortfall. Emergency assistance has been provided today. Ukraine’s power system also received surplus power from the Polish power system.
