People who want to achieve their desired result on a polygraph test often try to influence their own physiological state by taking sedatives or stimulants. Vladimir Vedmid, head of the National Association of Polygraph Examiners of Ukraine, spoke about this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, the most common scenario involves taking medications that suppress the body’s reactions. Among these, phenazepam or hydazepam are most frequently used. Another option is stimulants or energy drinks.
“People sometimes take sedatives… Others, on the contrary, may use energy drinks,” Vedmid noted.
At the same time, he explained that before the main test, stimulant tests are conducted—a baseline assessment of the body’s reactions.

One of the key stages is the person’s reaction to their own name. This is what allows us to determine whether the person is in a state suitable for testing.
If reactions are atypical or absent, the polygraph examiner has the right to stop the procedure.
“An experienced polygraph examiner will not allow a person to proceed if they do not observe reactions to the stimulus tests,” he said.
In such cases, the test may be rescheduled to avoid false conclusions.
