The 2026 World Cup is gaining momentum. Four more teams from Groups B and D are set to join the competition. Canada and the United States will play their first matches on home soil. According to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Canada vs. Bosnia and Herzegovina
The Canadian national team will kick off its World Cup campaign with a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Interestingly, this will be the first time the two teams have ever faced each other.
For Canada, this match will be special, as the team is playing in a home World Cup for the first time. However, the “Maple Leafs” will enter the game with a significant personnel loss: captain and the team’s most valuable player, Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich, will miss the match due to injury. In his absence, Juventus forward Jonathan David is expected to take on a leadership role for the team.
Interestingly, Canada has yet to win a single match at the World Cup—all six of its previous matches in 1986 and 2022 ended in defeat.
For Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has qualified for the World Cup for only the second time in history, all eyes are on the legendary 40-year-old veteran Edin Džeko. Despite his advanced age, the forward remains the team’s top scorer and stalwart. Ukrainian fans will be able to see former Zorya Luhansk goalkeeper Nikola Vasili in the Balkan team’s net.
Due to the time difference, match broadcasts will air late at night and in the early morning for Ukrainian fans.

The Ukrainian national team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup finals. In the semifinals of the European qualifying playoffs, the “blue-and-yellows” lost to Sweden (1-3).
