Ukrainian youth who have found themselves abroad due to the war are being encouraged to return to Ukraine to pursue their studies. The Kyiv School of Economics, in partnership with the Carnegie Corporation of New York, has announced 50 scholarships for the 2026–2027 academic year for applicants who decide to enroll in Ukraine after returning from abroad. This was announced by KSE President Tymofiy Mylovanov, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

The grants cover full tuition for any bachelor’s or master’s program, as well as additional support—health insurance, a stipend, mentorship, and access to internships and career opportunities.

KSE has announced 50 grants for applicants returning to Ukraine

According to Tymofiy Mylovanov, KSE, together with the Carnegie Corporation of New York, is providing 50 grants.

“Young people, prospective students—come back to Ukraine. KSE, together with the Carnegie Corporation of New York, is offering 50 grants for the 2026–2027 academic year to prospective students returning from abroad,” Milovanov noted.

He emphasized that the grant program applies to any bachelor’s or master’s degree program.

What the KSE scholarship covers

Under the new program, students can receive not only full tuition coverage but also comprehensive support during their studies.

As Tymofiy Milovanov explained, the grant provides:

  • full tuition coverage;
  • health insurance;
  • a stipend;
  • mentoring;
  • access to internships;
  • career opportunities.

“Any bachelor’s or master’s program, full tuition coverage, health insurance, a scholarship, mentorship, and access to internships and career opportunities,” he emphasized.

What programs does KSE offer?

Timofey Milovanov stated that KSE offers a world-class education, a strong community, and a modern campus. According to him, the university employs top-tier faculty from Ukraine and abroad, and applicants can choose from one of 21 programs.

“KSE provides a world-class education. We have top-tier faculty from Ukraine and abroad. A great campus and a strong community. 21 programs to choose from—ranging from artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to public policy, urban studies, and drones,” Milovanov noted.

Why young people are being encouraged to return to Ukraine

The address placed special emphasis on the fact that it is in Ukraine where young people today can fulfill their potential, gain relevant knowledge, and influence the country’s future.

“Here in Ukraine, you can achieve, learn, and make a difference many times over. This is a time of great change, but also a window of opportunity. You can be the ones who will change this country for the better. We will help you with this,” Milovanov emphasized.

According to him, KSE wants Ukraine to have more conscious and educated people with a quality education.

What Milovanov said about studying abroad

In his address, Tymofiy Milovanov also specifically mentioned the situation regarding Ukrainians studying abroad. He emphasized that if it involves admission to the world’s top universities, this is a good path. At the same time, in his opinion, many young people choose mid-tier institutions that do not always provide strong knowledge or the necessary environment for development.

“Of course, if you’re getting into Harvard, Oxford, or MIT—stay there, get your education, and come back to Ukraine with capital and knowledge. But most enroll in a mid-tier university somewhere in a small town in, say, Slovakia or Poland, and don’t gain quality knowledge or connections, nor do they become relevant in today’s environment,” he said.

What the KSE rector said about young people returning

KSE Rector Tymofiy Brik also emphasized that the university is specifically launching financial support for those who left due to the war.

“We are providing special financial support for those who left because of the war. We want them to return and study at our university so that they have opportunities to develop here and build a better country,” Brick noted.

Who the grant program is for

The new grant initiative is primarily aimed at Ukrainian applicants who, due to the war, have found themselves outside the country but are ready to return to Ukraine to continue their studies here.

In this way, KSE seeks to provide these young people not just with financial support, but with a real alternative to studying abroad—one that offers prospects for development, professional growth, and participation in the country’s reconstruction.

How to apply for a KSE grant

The announcement states that interested applicants are encouraged to apply for the grant via the link.

“We are eagerly awaiting you and believe in you. You are our future. The future of all of Ukraine. Apply!” — Tymofiy Mylovanov addressed the youth.

Who can participate:

  • Those who applied to study at higher education institutions abroad but decided to stay and study in Ukraine
  • Those who were forced to leave the country after February 24, 2022, and are currently residing abroad, and wish to return to Ukraine to study at KSE.

As reported by [Komersant], according to Milovanov, “Ukraine needs to invest more in education, otherwise we will lose the next war.”
