“At the time of the notice of suspicion, NABU has no information about the origin of the funds” – Bronevytskyi on Mindich case

The investigation of the high-profile Midas energy case may drag on for years due to the workload of the judicial system and the large number of episodes. In addition, the text of the suspicion against Timur Mindich currently contains too few established facts. Stanislav Bronevytskyi, a lawyer and former prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, said this in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian" .

“In my opinion, it is too early to talk about success in the case. Because successful success is probably the verdicts in the cases… I think it will not be very soon. In a recent commentary, I said that it should be several years. It will probably be so,” he said.

In addition, Bronevytskyi notes that Mindich’s suspicion contains a number of shortcomings that will complicate the work of prosecutors in court: from a lack of specifics to the lack of established origin of the seized funds. And the description of the criminal activity contains evaluative wording without key affirmative constructions, the lawyer added.

“From this I conclude that as of the moment of serving the notice of suspicion, the investigation has no information about the origin of these funds. This will make it difficult to prove legalization (of assets – ed.) in the future. There are not enough specifics. Well, at least for now,” he explained.

As you know, businessman Timur Mindich is one of the defendants in the NABU case and the Energoatom scandal. On November 10, the NABU and the SAPO published the so-called Mindich tapes and stated that a “kickback scheme was operating in the energy sector – contractors were demanding 10-15% of the transaction amount.”

The Mindich tapes, published by the NABU/SAPO, allegedly also identified former Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and former Energy Minister Oleksiy Chernyshov.

At the same time, suspicions were served or announced to the following individuals, in addition to Mindich:

  • Ihor Myroniuk (Rocket) – former advisor to the Minister of Energy,
  • Dmytro Basov (Tenor) – executive director for security at Energoatom,
  • Alexander Zuckerman (Sugarman),
  • Ihor Fursenko (Rashik),
  • Lesya Ustymenko,
  • Lyudmyla Zorina.

The scandal at Energoatom

As you know, businessman Timur Mindich is one of the defendants in the high-profile corruption scandal at Energoatom. On November 10, the NABU and the SAPO published the so-called Mindich tapes, which show that a kickback scheme was operating at Energoatom, with contractors being demanded to pay 10-15% of the transaction amount.

The scandal also implicated former Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and former Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk, who have both resigned. Mnidic is also suspected of putting pressure on the current Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, who previously served as Minister of Defense.
