Weather in Ukraine on June 24: temperatures up to 32°C, thunderstorms, and hail

On Wednesday, June 24, hot and unstable weather will prevail across Ukraine. In a number of regions, temperatures will rise to 32°C, while many areas will experience brief showers and thunderstorms. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Where will it be hottest on June 24?

During the day, temperatures in most regions will range from 27 to 32°C. It will be slightly cooler in the western and northern regions, where temperatures are forecast to be 23 to 28°C.

At night, temperatures will mostly range from 13 to 18°C. In the southern part of the country, nighttime temperatures will be higher—around 17 to 22°C.

Thus, the most intense heat is expected in the southern, eastern, and parts of the central regions.

Thunderstorms will pass through Ukraine

Throughout the day, moderate, short-lived rain and thunderstorms are possible in most regions. The weather is likely to remain mostly dry in the north and northeast of the country.

During thunderstorms, the following is forecast for some areas:

  • hail;
  • gusts of wind at 15–20 m/s;
  • sudden gusts of wind;
  • localized heavy downpours.

Due to the unstable nature of the weather, precipitation will be unevenly distributed. Within a single region, some settlements may experience heavy downpours, while others will remain dry.

What will the wind be like?

On June 24, winds are expected to be predominantly northwesterly, with speeds of 7–12 m/s.

During thunderstorms, gusts may reach 15–20 m/s. Under such conditions, falling branches, damage to lightweight structures, and damage to billboards are possible.

Residents of regions where warnings about hazardous weather conditions have been issued are advised not to park their cars under trees and to avoid open areas during thunderstorms.

Weather in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region

Partly cloudy skies are expected in Kyiv on June 24. Daytime temperatures will be approximately 26–30°C, and nighttime temperatures will be around 16–18°C.

In the Kyiv region, nighttime temperatures are forecast to be 13–18°C, while daytime temperatures will reach 24–29°C.

Winds in the capital and the region will be from the northwest. The likelihood of precipitation will depend on the passage of local atmospheric fronts.

Where the Heaviest Showers Are Expected

Unstable weather will affect a significant part of Ukraine. The highest probability of thunderstorms is expected in the central, southern, western, and parts of the eastern regions.

In Zakarpattia and Prykarpattia, heavy precipitation is possible in some areas. In thunderstorm cells, a large amount of rain may fall in a short period of time.

Due to localized downpours, temporary flooding of certain streets and low-lying areas is possible.

How to Stay Safe During a Heat Wave

When temperatures reach up to 32°C, meteorologists and medical professionals advise limiting time spent in direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day.

Be sure to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and a hat, and do not leave children or pets in locked cars.

People with cardiovascular diseases and the elderly are advised to avoid strenuous physical activity during the day.

The weather will remain changeable

In the coming days, Ukraine will continue to experience a mix of summer heat and localized thunderstorms. Air temperatures may vary significantly across different regions.

Weather conditions will change rapidly: sunny spells will alternate with brief downpours, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
