Political crisis: Parliament failed to pass a series of important votes this week

For the first time this term, the Verkhovna Rada failed to pass nearly all of the bills on the agenda for the plenary week. According to MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the lawmakers did not pass a single bill related to the IMF, the World Bank, or European integration over the course of three days, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".
“As for the voting during this plenary week… it’s a disaster again. We had planned two IMF bills, one for the World Bank, and a bunch of others related to European integration. In reality, we didn’t pass a single bill in three days,” the MP stated.
According to him, the result of the Verkhovna Rada’s work is as follows:
- Tuesday: absolutely everything failed
- Wednesday: they approved just one resolution
- Thursday: one resolution and two positive laws.
The problem isn’t attendance—there were over 310 votes on the board, meaning the elected representatives are in the chamber. They simply refused to vote for important reforms, even though officials at Bankova had previously assured everyone that there was no crisis, Zheleznyak noted.
“Moreover, note that there were 314 ‘For’ votes on the board for the Ombudsman’s report. So this isn’t a turnout issue. So… what’s going on, has the political crisis ended? On May 27, when the IMF mission arrives, the absolute inability to muster votes in the Rada will become clear. And, unlike in February–March, they no longer have the margin to ignore this…,” the MP concluded.
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently stated that the Ukrainian parliament must pass at least 10 bills in the near future, on which hundreds of millions of dollars in state budget funding depend.
