Russian and Belarusian gymnasts have been allowed to compete in international competitions under their national flags and with their national anthems. The decision was made by the Executive Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation at a meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, on May 16–17, according to "Komersant Ukrainian", citing DW.
The restrictions, introduced in February 2022, are being lifted immediately. The decision applies to all five disciplines under the Russian Gymnastics Federation: artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, sports acrobatics, and sports aerobics.
First competition under the Russian flag
Acrobats will make their debut under the Russian flag at the World Cup stage in Burgas, Bulgaria, from May 29 to 31.
After being suspended in 2022 due to Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine, Russian gymnasts were granted the right to compete in international competitions starting in 2024, but only under a neutral status—without a flag or anthem.
