Kyiv Plans to Raise Minibus Fares: What the Likely Fare Will Be

Fares for route taxis in Kyiv may increase starting August 1. Transport operators attribute this to rising fuel prices, a shortage of drivers, and higher vehicle maintenance costs. Igor Moiseenko, head of the “Association of Transport Operators of Kyiv and the Kyiv Region,” told RBC-Ukraine about this, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Fares may increase
“Starting August 1, fares for minibuses in Kyiv may increase. We had planned to raise prices as early as July 15, but we didn’t do so at that time because public transportation fares had just gone up. Since then, over the past 15 days, the cost of fuel has risen by 15 hryvnias. Therefore, we are now forced to raise fares starting August 1,” he said.
He also emphasized that minibuses that previously cost 20 hryvnias will now have a new fare of 25 hryvnias. Those that used to cost 10 hryvnias will now cost 20.

At the same time, Moiseenko noted that the final decision is to be made on July 30.
According to him, the decision to revise fares is not solely due to rising fuel prices. Transport operators are also affected by a labor shortage, organizational challenges, and rising operating costs.
He noted that there are virtually no routes in Kyiv where a shortage of drivers is not felt. The situation, he said, has been complicated by legislative changes that took effect on June 1 and have made it more difficult to exempt drivers from mobilization.
In addition, some employees are reluctant to take routes that pass through checkpoints due to the risk of delays and difficulties with passage. This creates additional challenges for ensuring the stable operation of public transportation.
Another factor has been the rising cost of spare parts, lubricants, and other consumables due to the strengthening of the dollar. According to transport operators, this has significantly increased the cost of passenger transportation and forced them to revise their fares.
