The EU extends sanctions against Russia, excluding certain individuals

The European Union has decided to extend restrictive measures against the Russian Federation for another six months. According to the EU Council, the sanctions imposed in response to Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine will remain in force until at least March 15, 2026, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Who is subject to sanctions
The restrictions apply to more than 2, 500 individuals and legal entities from Russia. They will be subject to
- a ban on entry and transit through the territory of the EU
- freezing of assets;
- a ban on providing financial or economic resources to companies and individuals on the list.
Changes to the sanctions lists
In the process of regular review of sanctions:
- one more person was removed from the list due to death.
- sanctions were not renewed for one person.
The names of these individuals are not disclosed.
The EU is ready for new steps
The EU Council’s statement emphasizes that the bloc is ready to increase pressure on Moscow, including by adopting new sanctions packages.
Britain also tightens restrictions
On the same day, September 12, the United Kingdom imposed new sanctions against Russia. Dozens of ships and companies of the aggressor country were subject to restrictions.
Context
Earlier, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said that the Union condemns the deliberate violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones and is preparing further steps to increase sanctions pressure on Moscow.
