The NBU’s official exchange rates as of June 16

The National Bank of Ukraine has set the following official exchange rates:

  • 1 U.S. dollar — 44.82 UAH;
  • 1 euro — 52.04 UAH;
  • 1 Polish zloty — 12.26 UAH.

Compared to the previous rate, the dollar rose by one kopeck, the euro rose by 18 kopecks, and the zloty rose by 5 kopecks.

The euro set a new all-time high

The main event in the currency market was the rise of the euro. The official exchange rate of the European currency exceeded 52 UAH and set a new all-time high.

This rise in the euro is significant for Ukrainians planning trips to EU countries, paying for education or services in euros, holding import contracts, or keeping savings in the European currency.

The dollar exchange rate remains stable

The U.S. dollar remained virtually unchanged as of June 16. The official exchange rate is 44.82 UAH per dollar.

In the cash market, the dollar exchange rate at currency exchange offices and banks is traditionally higher than the official rate. This is due to currency demand, bank fees, the interbank market situation, and the internal policies of individual financial institutions.

What’s happening with the hryvnia

The hryvnia remains influenced by several factors: the situation on the foreign exchange market, demand from importers, the volume of international aid, the actions of the National Bank, and the overall state of the economy.

The euro is appreciating more rapidly due to the dynamics of the euro/dollar exchange rate on global markets. If the euro strengthens against the dollar, this also affects the euro-to-hryvnia exchange rate.
