European countries, together with Ukraine, have presented a counter-position on conflict resolution before the upcoming talks between Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to The Wall Street Journal.
European states and Ukraine have responded to Putin’s ceasefire plan with a counter-proposal, which they believe should serve as a basis for future negotiations between President Trump and the Russian dictator to gain momentum.
According to the newspaper, the European side rejected the Russian proposal to exchange parts of the Donetsk region controlled by Ukraine for a ceasefire.
European governments, including those of Britain, Germany, and France, as well as Ukraine, decided to respond to the peace proposal, which came after Putin and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met in the Kremlin this week.
After these talks, President Trump missed a self-imposed deadline for imposing tough secondary sanctions on Russia and agreed to meet with Putin in Alaska on August 15.
