In 2025, Ukraine’s industrial dairy sector reached an average milk yield per cow on par with that of European Union countries. This was reported by the Association of Milk Producers during the 18th International Dairy Congress in Uman, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the industry association, the average milk yield in the commercial sector reached 8,247 kg of milk per cow per year. At the same time, some Ukrainian farms are achieving yields of 12,000–13,500 kg of milk per cow, which is on par with the results of leading global producers.
The AVM emphasizes that this result was achieved despite the war, labor shortages, financing problems, and energy risks.
Milk Quality
Another important indicator is milk quality.
“As of 2025, 62% of the milk sent for processing already meets the requirements for the ‘extra’ grade. This demonstrates the systematic modernization of dairy farms and confident preparation for operating in accordance with EU standards,” the UDM notes.
The Ukrainian dairy industry has already proven that it is capable of operating according to the world’s highest standards even under extremely challenging conditions. However, the next stage of development will require more than just an increase in production volumes, notes Anna Lavrenyuk, a spokesperson for the Association of Milk Producers.
“The global dairy industry is undergoing a rapid restructuring of its entire architecture and objectives. Therefore, the future of the Ukrainian dairy industry directly depends on our ability to adapt to new requirements, namely productivity, quality, digitalization, sustainable development, and value-added processing,” she added.
