Facebook and Instagram are down: Meta reports a major technical outage

Users around the world are reporting issues with the popular Facebook and Instagram apps, which are owned by Meta Platforms Inc.

This is according to data from Downdetector, a service that tracks outages in online services, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

The issues began to arise around 5:00 p.m. Kyiv time. The main complaint from users is that they cannot refresh their personal pages on these platforms. This could affect users’ interaction with content, as well as their ability to communicate via these social networks.

Possible causes

At this time, the causes of the outage remain unknown.

Meta has not yet provided an official explanation or solution to the problem.

As a reminder, Meta Platforms Inc. previously announced the layoff of approximately 8,000 employees, with another 7,000 employees being reassigned to smaller teams to work in new roles related to artificial intelligence.
