The situation in eastern Ukraine remains extremely tense, and fighting is gradually moving closer to key defensive lines in the Donetsk region. This was stated by Andriy Illenko—a former member of the Ukrainian Parliament, major, and deputy commander of the “Svoboda” battalion—according to [Komersant].
According to him, the enemy continues to apply pressure, and the defense is coming at a heavy cost.
“The front line is approaching the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk metropolitan area. If anyone thinks that behind this stronghold there are a dozen more just like it, I’m afraid I have to disappoint them. Beyond this stronghold lies the road deep into the country,” he said.
The military official also emphasized that the threat remains high for other regions as well.

In particular, enemy FPV drones have been spotted in Kharkiv, and the capital remains one of the Russians’ main targets during the heating season:
“Kyiv is the main target of enemy shelling this winter.”
Commenting on socio-political debates, Andriy Illienko spoke about the electoral process ahead of the end of hostilities, emphasizing that the fate of the state is being decided directly on the battlefield:
“My opinion remains unchanged. Holding elections during a war of this intensity is a bad idea. And in general, I don’t expect anything particularly good from the upcoming elections (when they eventually take place)… We will secure a bright future through battle, not through elections.”
