Thunderstorms will sweep across nearly all of Ukraine: Forecasters have issued a yellow alert for July 24

On Friday, July 24, the weather in Ukraine will remain unstable. Forecasters predict brief showers and thunderstorms in most regions, while the southern part of the country will largely see no significant precipitation. Due to thunderstorm activity, a Level I (yellow) hazard alert has been issued in several regions.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

Where rain and thunderstorms are forecast for July 24

According to forecasters, brief showers and thunderstorms are expected across nearly the entire territory of Ukraine.

Most southern regions will remain free of significant precipitation.

Winds will be predominantly from the north at speeds of 5–10 m/s.

According to the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, thunderstorm activity will intensify during the day on July 24 in the western regions, as well as in the Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions. A Level I hazard warning (yellow) has been issued for these areas due to the possibility of dangerous weather phenomena.

What will the air temperature be?

Nighttime temperatures will range from:

  • 10–15° in most regions;
  • up to 19° in southern and eastern Ukraine;
  • 5–10° in the Carpathians.

During the day, temperatures will rise to:

  • up to 21–26° across almost the entire country;
  • 12–17° in the Carpathians.

Thus, temperatures will remain comfortable and lower than the heatwave observed in early July.

Weather in Kyiv and the Kyiv Region

In the capital and the Kyiv region, the night will pass without significant precipitation.

In the afternoon, brief showers and thunderstorms are forecast in some areas.

Air temperatures will be:

  • in the Kyiv region, 10–15° at night and 21–26° during the day;
  • in Kyiv, 13–15° at night and around 25° during the day .

The wind will be from the north at 5–10 m/s.

Why a yellow danger level was issued

A yellow alert level means that weather conditions may disrupt the operations of certain businesses and traffic, and pose local risks to the public.

During thunderstorms, emergency responders recommend:

  • avoid standing under isolated trees;
  • avoid billboards and power lines;
  • do not leave cars under large trees;
  • if possible, stay indoors until the thunderstorm has passed.
