When will the long-awaited warm weather arrive in Ukraine: a meteorologist’s forecast
27 April 13:13
Forecast
Don’t expect a quick warming trend. It will remain cool until the 10th of May. Meteorologist Natalia Golenia shared this information in an exclusive comment to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“For now, the cold weather will persist until the end of the month. It will clear up at night, so over the next three nights, frosts will range from zero to three degrees—that is, in the air. On the ground, it goes without saying,” says Golenia.
According to the meteorologist, temperatures will begin to rise slightly starting on May 1 and 2.
“It will start slowly, with the advection of warmer air from the northwest… so there will be a gradual rise in temperature, meaning the frosts will stop.”
And starting May 3, as the meteorologist says, nighttime temperatures will rise, though not significantly, to 2–8 degrees Celsius. This will continue until May 10. After that, we can expect warmer weather.
“Daytime highs will initially reach 10–15 degrees, and then 15–20,” Golenia explained.

When to expect summer
However, the meteorologist explains that we shouldn’t expect summer to arrive quickly just yet, nor the start of the swimming season.
“We still have to get through spring; first, we need to reach normal May temperatures. And it’s not certain that there won’t be cold air intrusions from the north. When the average daily temperature crosses 15 degrees Celsius, then it will be summer. So far, there’s no sign of it,” says Golenia.
As a reminder, a cold cyclone is currently sweeping across Ukraine. According to the forecast by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, on April 27, gusts of northwesterly wind reaching 15–20 m/s are expected across Ukraine, except in the western regions.
At the same time, April 27–29 will be mostly dry, with only light rain possible in some areas of the north and northeast, and wet snow in some places on April 27. Forecasters are also warning of frost: at night, air temperatures may drop to 0–3° below freezing, and in the south and southeast, ground temperatures may drop to 0–5° below freezing.
The day before, the bad weather caused significant damage. Dozens of cases of fallen trees were reported in various regions. In cities, trees blocked roads and fell onto power lines, cars, and buildings. There were fatalities and injuries. Additionally, hail, squalls, and dust storms could damage early spring crops, vegetables, young sunflower and corn seedlings, as well as blooming orchards.
