Exchange rates after the weekend: the dollar is falling, the euro is rising

The National Bank of Ukraine has set the official exchange rates for Monday, May 4, 2026. Following the weekend, the dollar is expected to decline, while the euro, on the contrary, will appreciate. This is indicated by updated data on the regulator’s website, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
Thus, the hryvnia will strengthen against the U.S. dollar but weaken against the euro.
Dollar exchange rate for May 4
On Monday, May 4, the National Bank set the official dollar exchange rate at:
- 1 US dollar — 43.91 UAH
Compared to the previous banking day, the dollar fell by about 5 kopecks. On Friday, May 1, the official exchange rate for the U.S. currency was 43.96 UAH.
On the cash market, the dollar also fell: according to the data provided, its rate dropped to 43.75 UAH.
Euro exchange rate as of May 4
The euro, on the other hand, will rise after the weekend. The official exchange rate of the European currency as of May 4 is:
- 1 euro — 51.59 UAH
On Friday, May 1, the euro exchange rate was 51.45 UAH, meaning the European currency gained about 14 kopecks over the weekend.

What’s happening with the hryvnia
After the weekend, the hryvnia showed mixed trends against major currencies. It strengthened against the dollar, as the U.S. currency fell below the 44 UAH mark. At the same time, the hryvnia weakened against the euro, as the European currency appreciated.
This difference may be linked not only to the Ukrainian currency market but also to fluctuations in the euro/dollar pair on international markets. If the euro strengthens against the dollar globally, this is often reflected in the official hryvnia exchange rate against the European currency.
