Russian shelling has left consumers without power in four regions: what we know

4 May 10:49

As of May 4, some consumers in four regions of Ukraine remain temporarily without power due to Russian shelling of energy infrastructure. These regions are Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Kherson. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported on the situation, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"

The ministry noted that energy workers are operating in emergency mode, and emergency repair work is ongoing around the clock.

Where there is no power due to shelling

Due to Russian attacks and damage to energy facilities, some consumers remain without electricity in the following regions:

  • Donetsk region;
  • Dnipropetrovsk Oblast;
  • Kharkiv Oblast;
  • Kherson region.

These are localized power outages caused by hostilities, damage to power grids, power lines, and energy infrastructure.

Will there be power outage schedules on May 4?

The Ministry of Energy reported that no electricity consumption restrictions are expected on May 4.

In other words, no nationwide power outage schedules are currently expected. However, in communities where infrastructure has been damaged by shelling, emergency or localized power outages may continue.

Consumers are advised to check the official websites of their regional power companies for any changes in electricity supply.

Energy workers are on duty around the clock

Emergency crews are working around the clock to restore power to all customers as quickly as possible. Restoration work continues 24/7 wherever the security situation allows.

In frontline regions, repairs are often complicated by the risk of repeated strikes, mine hazards, and damage to access routes to power facilities.

Ukrainians urged to conserve electricity

Although no restrictions are expected on May 4, the Ministry of Energy has urged Ukrainians to use electricity sparingly during peak consumption hours.

The system experiences the highest load during:

  • the morning hours;
  • evening hours.

To reduce the load on the power grid, consumers are advised not to turn on several high-power appliances at the same time and to shift some household chores to daytime or nighttime hours.

Why the power grid remains vulnerable

Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with missiles, drones, and artillery. The situation remains most critical in regions located near the combat zone or regularly subjected to shelling.

Damage to power lines, substations, and other energy facilities leads to temporary power outages even when rolling blackouts are not in effect nationwide.
