American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk unveiled plans on the social media platform X for a future Terafab chip manufacturing plant in Texas, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Terafab Texas will be the largest and most valuable building on Earth,” he wrote on X, posting a video about the project.
Musk’s company SpaceX’s website states that the facility will cover an area of approximately 9.3 million square meters. Thus, Terafab will be the world’s largest chip manufacturing plant. The chips will be used in Optimus humanoid robots, Cybercab robotic taxis, and SpaceX’s space-based data centers, according to the publication.
In July, Musk stated that the Terafab project is designed to meet the needs of Tesla and SpaceX for chips used in AI and robotics. Previously, the entrepreneur had estimated its cost at approximately $20 billion, with production planned for California and Texas.
Documents submitted by SpaceX to Grimes County authorities state that the initial investment in the facility’s construction will amount to $55 billion, and could reach $119 billion once all phases of the project are completed.
