What is known about the attack on Kyiv on June 2

On the night of June 1, Russia launched a massive combined strike against Ukraine. Kyiv was the main target of the attack.

According to the Air Force, Russia launched 73 missiles and 656 drones at various regions of the country. Ukrainian air defense shot down 40 missiles and 602 drones.

In Kyiv, the attack caused widespread destruction in several districts. Reuters reported fires, thick smoke over the city, and damage to high-rise buildings. Residential buildings were destroyed in the capital, civilian facilities were damaged, and emergency services spent several hours dealing with the aftermath of the strike.

How the death toll rose

Throughout the day, the death toll from the attack in Kyiv was repeatedly updated. In the morning, a lower number of fatalities was reported, but by evening the death toll had risen.

After 10:00 p.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that another wounded person had died in the hospital, bringing the total death toll in the capital to seven.

This indicates that some of those wounded in the nighttime attack were in critical condition. That is why the death toll could have continued to rise even after the active phase of the shelling had ended.

How many people were injured

The attack on Kyiv left 90 people injured. According to city authorities, more than half of them required hospitalization. Fifty-two victims remained in hospitals, including children.

The extent of the injuries confirms that the strike was aimed not only at infrastructure but also had severe consequences for the capital’s civilian population.

In various districts of the capital, residential buildings, non-residential structures, vehicles, and social infrastructure facilities were damaged. In particular, there were reports of destruction and fires in high-rise buildings, fires on the grounds of non-residential developments, damage near a kindergarten, and the destruction of a medical facility.

Kyiv became the main target of the nighttime strike, and the scale of damage in the city was among the worst in the country.
