“Don’t save me, help my dad”: The OGP has released bodycam footage from police officers during the terrorist attack in Kyiv

Two patrol police officers have been notified of their status as suspects following the events surrounding the terrorist attack in Kyiv.
This was announced by Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
The charges were based on body camera footage showing the officers leaving the scene of the shooting.
The video that caused a stir
Thereleased footage contains sensitive scenes.
They show:
- wounded civilians, including a child;
- a boy who addresses the police officers, saying:
“Don’t save me, help my dad”; - patrol officers retreating from the scene.
These recordings became key evidence in the case.
What the police officers are suspected of
According to the investigation, the crew responded to a call about a shooting. They saw wounded people who needed immediate assistance, had their service weapons with them and legal grounds to use them, but did not use them and left the scene.
Their actions are classified under Part 3 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine —official negligence resulting in serious consequences.
Police Explanation
Yevhen Zhukov, head of the Patrol Police Department, previously commented on the situation, stating that the patrol officers were disoriented during the shooting and began retreating toward their patrol car. They drew their weapons but did not use them.
According to him, they could have fired a warning shot into the air or used their weapons given the threat.
One of the officers has been with the police since 2024, the other since 2015.
What is known about the attack itself
The incident occurred on April 18 in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv:
- an armed man opened fire;
- he took hostages in a supermarket;
- after about 40 minutes of negotiations, special forces stormed the building.
Consequences:
- 7 dead,
- 7 wounded, who remain in hospitals as of April 20.
The attacker was killed.
