European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that one of the topics on the G7 summit agenda will be the issue of continued funding for Ukraine. She also announced a European Union grant of 75 million euros for a new secure containment facility.

She made this announcement at a press conference in Evian-les-Bains, where the G7 summit will take place and where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also expected to attend, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“I am looking forward to tomorrow’s meeting with President Zelenskyy. Russia’s brutal war of aggression has, in fact, lasted longer than World War I. And given the escalation of attacks, Europe continues its unwavering support for Ukraine. Our €90 billion loan package covers two-thirds of Ukraine’s financial needs for this year and next. The first disbursements will take place later this month. And for the remaining third, we need Ukraine’s active partners. This will be the topic of this summit,” said the President of the European Commission.

Von der Leyen also announced that, together with Canada, the EU is preparing for the coming winter in Ukraine.

“Together with Canada, we are leading the preparation efforts. And we are joining President Macron’s efforts regarding the pledges. I can announce a contribution of 75 million euros in the form of grant funding for a new safe confinement,” she said.

Von der Leyen also noted that “at the same time, the EU is anchoring Ukraine in Europe.”

“Today we are opening the first cluster of EU accession negotiations. This is a huge step forward. Ukraine has made significant progress on reforms. They have succeeded, so now we must succeed as well,” emphasized the President of the European Commission.

The G7 summit in the French city of Evian-les-Bains opened today, June 15.

The main items on the agenda are the end of the war in Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz. French President Emmanuel Macron announced this on the eve of the summit.

He assured that summit participants would reaffirm their “support for Ukraine, its energy infrastructure, and its defense efforts.”

“We will also work to create conditions for negotiations that could lead to a lasting peace,” Macron noted.

Representatives of the so-called G7—France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States—as well as the European Union will meet in Evian-les-Bains.

Egypt and Gulf countries, such as Qatar and the UAE, will also participate in discussions regarding the situation with Iran.

The G7 summit will last until June 17, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he had invited Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to meet in Evian-les-Bains.

“Trump and Macron will be there, so it’s the Europeans plus America. This is a good opportunity to meet all together. Europe and the United States have reached an agreement, while Russia has once again demonstrated that… they are not ready to talk,” Zelenskyy said.

On June 13, Suspilne, citing its own sources in the White House, reported that U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy would participate in a working session of the G7 summit and might hold a meeting on the sidelines of the event.

On June 14, The Guardian reported that both Trump and Zelenskyy would attend the G7 summit, but that no separate meeting between them would take place.
