Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, Trump signed executive orders restricting the right to citizenship by birth

On Thursday, August 6, U.S. President Donald Trump signed two executive orders, making a new, albeit narrower, attempt to restrict the right to citizenship by birth, once again challenging provisions of the U.S. Constitution despite the fact that the Supreme Court had rejected his previous initiative. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Reuters.
Restricting the right to citizenship by birth is one of Trump’s top priorities as part of his campaign to tighten immigration policy. The White House is particularly active in combating so-called “birth tourism,” in which pregnant foreign women travel to the U.S. to give birth.

After suffering a setback in his dispute with the Supreme Court on June 30, Trump called on Congress to take action, but on Thursday he decided to use executive orders, which set the government’s course of action but do not have the same legal force as legislation passed by Congress.
The Supreme Court ruled that Trump’s previous executive order—which affected a wide range of immigrants residing in the country illegally or temporarily—was unconstitutional.
The administration argues that the new executive order is not subject to the Supreme Court’s ruling because it proposes a new interpretation of the recognized narrow exceptions to the right to citizenship by birth and expands the group of people who are ineligible to receive it.
“This practice of ‘birth tourism’ has been banned since the signing of this executive order,” White House adviser Stephen Miller said at the signing ceremony in the Oval Office.
The executive orders also restrict the rights of children of foreign government employees, as well as children of individuals classified as “enemy aliens.”
