Norway has announced a new aid package for Ukraine: this year, Oslo will allocate 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner for the development, procurement, and delivery of maritime drones to Ukraine. This was stated in an official government announcement , according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The funding will be provided under the Nansen Program, which is a key instrument of Norwegian civilian and military aid to Kyiv.
The Norwegian government clarified that the new program involves the supply of maritime drones through both the Norwegian and Ukrainian defense industries. Such systems can have various configurations and carry sensors, weapons, or even aerial drones.
How much funding will Ukraine receive?
Norway is allocating 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner for maritime drones for Ukraine, which is equivalent to approximately 109 million euros or over 120 million dollars.
This money will go specifically toward the maritime unmanned component that Ukraine uses for reconnaissance, strike operations, and defense against Russian attacks in the Black Sea.
Under which program is the assistance being provided
Funding is being provided through the Nansen Support Programme for Ukraine. According to the Norwegian government, in 2026 the country is providing Ukraine with 85 billion Norwegian kroner in support, of which 70 billion kroner is earmarked for military aid and 15 billion kroner for civilian and humanitarian aid.
The Norwegian government emphasizes that the allocation of funds under the program is coordinated with the Ukrainian side to ensure that the money goes where it is needed most.

Why Ukraine Needs Maritime Drones
The Norwegian government explained that maritime drones are intended to help Ukraine defend its sea lanes, particularly the routes for exporting grain and other goods through the Black Sea, which remain critically important to the Ukrainian economy.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated that Norway’s maritime industry is a global leader and that this expertise can be used to support Ukraine’s fight for freedom. He also noted that Ukraine is already using maritime drones for reconnaissance, offensive operations, and defense against Russian strikes.
The new Norwegian investment represents not only additional funding but also a commitment to a type of weaponry that has already proven its effectiveness in naval warfare.
It is particularly important that the project also mentions the Ukrainian defense industry, meaning that part of the funds could support domestic production and technological development.
