The fuel cashback program has been extended, but with changes: what will happen to payments starting May 1

29 April 22:49

Ukraine has extended its fuel cashback program through May 31, 2026. At the same time, the terms will become stricter starting May 1. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the Ministry of Digital Transformation on Telegram.

The Cabinet of Ministers has extended the fuel cashback program for another month due to persistently high fuel prices.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the cashback is intended as compensation and is designed to partially offset drivers’ fuel costs.

Depending on the type of fuel, the government reimburses a portion of the cost: 15% for diesel, 10% for gasoline, and 5% for autogas.

Until when will the fuel cashback program be in effect?

The fuel cashback program has been extended until May 31, 2026. It was originally set to end on May 1, but the government decided to extend the support for another month.

The reason is high fuel prices, which remain a significant burden for drivers.

The program launched on March 20, 2026, as a temporary measure to support consumers following a sharp rise in fuel prices.

What will change starting May 1

The main change is a reduction in the maximum payment limit.

Previously, Ukrainian drivers could receive up to 1,000 UAH in cashback per month for fuel. Starting May 1, the maximum compensation amount will be 500 UAH per month.

At the same time, the cashback rates remain the same:

Fuel typeCashback amount
Diesel fuel15%
Gasoline10%
LPG5%

According to government estimates, depending on the type of fuel, this compensation could result in savings of approximately 2 to 13 UAH per liter.

How to get fuel cashback

To receive fuel compensation, you must be a participant in the “National Cashback” program.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Open a “National Cashback” card at one of the partner banks.
  2. Select the card for making purchases and authorize the bank to share transaction information.
  3. In the “Diya” app, select the “National Cashback” service and link your card to receive payments.

Fuel cashback is available exclusively through the “National Cashback” program, and the funds are credited to a special card for this program.

At which gas stations can you get cashback

You can receive cashback for refueling at gas stations participating in the program. 219 gas station operators have already joined the initiative—ranging from large national chains to local stations.

Among the networks mentioned in the program terms are:

  • Ukrnafta;
  • OKKO;
  • WOG;
  • Amic Energy;
  • BVS;
  • KLO;
  • Motto;
  • Chipo;
  • VostokGas;
  • Autotrans;
  • Mango;
  • Parallel;
  • Rodnik;
  • BRSM-Nafta.

However, there is an important condition: cashback does not apply to fuel purchases made through gas station apps. To receive compensation, you must pay for your purchase with a card linked to the app.

When will the money be credited?

Cashback for fuel is credited after refueling, but funds are transferred to the “National Cashback” card the following month.

For example, users should receive compensation for April refueling by the end of May. According to the program’s general rules, the funds can be used for specific categories of goods and services, but cannot simply be transferred to another card.

What can you spend fuel cashback on

You cannot spend money from the “National Cashback” card on just anything. The program specifies a list of permitted categories.

Specifically, cashback can be used for:

  • utility and postal services;
  • charity and support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • food;
  • Ukrainian medicines, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices;
  • books and other printed materials produced in Ukraine that are part of the program.

Withdrawing funds to other bank cards is not permitted. The program’s official website states that money from “National Cashback” can be spent on essentials or donated to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Why the program was extended

Fuel cashback was introduced in response to the sharp rise in fuel prices. The government explained that this was a temporary measure designed to partially offset price increases without direct manual market regulation.

The Ministry of Economy previously emphasized that it had chosen a digital and targeted support tool that distorts competition among gas stations the least.

Against the backdrop of high global oil prices and tensions in energy markets, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to extend the cashback program for another month, but with a lower limit per user.

How many Ukrainians use the program

The program quickly became popular among drivers. According to government data, as early as the beginning of April, more than 200,000 new “National Cashback” accounts were opened as part of the fuel cashback launch, and a total of 4.4 million Ukrainians were actively using the “National Cashback” program.

This shows that fuel cashback has become one of the most significant additions to the program for Ukrainians’ everyday expenses.
