Why frosts are dangerous for orchards
Late April is a period of active blooming for many fruit trees. Apricots, peaches, cherries, sweet cherries, plums, apple trees, and pear trees are particularly vulnerable to frost.
Even a brief drop in temperature below freezing can damage blossoms, ovaries, and young shoots. As a result, part of the future harvest may be lost.
Gardeners are advised to protect young plants with agrotextile, plastic sheeting, or other covering materials whenever possible. For small trees and shrubs, you can also use smoke screens or evening watering if conditions permit.
According to weather forecasts, frosts may persist beyond April 28. In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, a dangerous drop in temperature is also expected on the nights of April 29 and 30.
Therefore, the next few nights will be cold, and the risks to gardens and early crops will remain high.
