The greatest risk of errors in a polygraph examiner’s work is not due to a lack of experience, but rather—on the contrary—to excessive confidence in their own conclusions. Vladimir Vedmid, head of the National Association of Polygraph Examiners of Ukraine, made this statement in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, psychologists and former law enforcement officers often fall into the trap of professional experience—they begin to trust their intuition more than the methodology.
“Psychologists and former law enforcement officers very often become hostages to their initial training. They believe that their experience is already so extensive that they can ‘read’ people… and sometimes they don’t really need a polygraph test,” he noted.
Vedmid explained: the problem arises when a specialist forms their own theory even before the test and begins to tailor the interpretation of the results to fit that theory.

In contrast, according to him, younger specialists often demonstrate better results precisely because they strictly adhere to the procedure.
At the same time, he emphasized that experience becomes an advantage only when it complements the methodology rather than replacing it.
“Strict adherence to the methodology’s instructions yields positive results,” the association’s chairman emphasized.
