What Happened in Vyshneve

On the night of July 5–6, Russian troops launched a massive combined strike on the Kyiv region.

After the strike on Vyshneve, a powerful secondary detonation of ammunition occurred, which lasted several hours.

Due to the danger, local authorities urged residents:

  • not to go outside;
  • not to open windows;
  • to evacuate children from the danger zone if possible.

Consequences of the Strike

According to official reports, as a result of the Russian attack:

  • 8 people were killed;
  • 29 people were injured;
  • about 500 residents were evacuated;
  • nearly five streets in the city suffered significant damage.

According to local authorities, this was the most extensive destruction of residential areas in Vyshneve since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Theories about the explosions have been confirmed

Immediately after the tragedy, speculation emerged in the media and among military experts that the secondary explosions might have been linked to the detonation of munitions.

In particular, the American publication The Wall Street Journal suggested that the nature of the explosions indicated the detonation of a large quantity of ammunition.

Earlier, Member of Parliament Mariana Bezuhla also stated that the Russian strike had hit an ammunition depot, but she later deleted the post.

At the same time, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported after the attack that the facility where the secondary detonation occurred does not belong to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The investigation is ongoing

The president has instructed law enforcement agencies to establish all the circumstances of the tragedy and hold those responsible accountable.

The investigation must determine who made the decision to locate the ammunition depot near a residential area and whether safety requirements were followed.
