The popular messaging app Telegram should not be used to transmit confidential information, as its level of security is inferior to that of other widely used messaging services. This was stated by cybersecurity expert Konstantin Korsun in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, Telegram’s main problem is that end-to-end encryption is not enabled by default in regular chats, while most users are completely unaware of this.
“Among all popular messaging apps, Telegram is the least secure. It uses its own encryption protocol, which has not undergone proper independent verification. And regular chats do not have end-to-end encryption at all,” Korsun said.
The expert explained that messages in most Telegram chats are stored on the company’s servers, which fundamentally distinguishes it from a number of other popular messaging apps.

According to Korsun, this is precisely why users should not use Telegram to discuss confidential information or work-related matters.
“If you have something to hide or want to ensure the privacy of your communications, Telegram isn’t the best choice,” he noted.
At the same time, the expert emphasized that the messaging app remains a convenient tool for getting news or engaging in open communication. However, in his opinion, for private correspondence, it is more advisable to use services where end-to-end encryption is enabled by default.
Korsun also noted that the issue of digital security is becoming increasingly relevant for both government agencies and businesses. According to him, the choice of communication tools today is not only a matter of convenience but also a means of protecting personal and corporate data.
