In Rivne, thermal power plants were used as a cover in a scheme to evade mobilization

A scheme was operating in Rivne to recruit conscripts and register them under false employment contracts at a critical infrastructure facility in order to exempt them from mobilization.

This is evidenced by the Rivne City Court’s ruling of April 28, according to which Oleksandr Yanchuk, one of the scheme’s participants, pleaded guilty and received a five-year suspended prison sentence, reports "Komersant Ukrainian" citing EP.

In 2023, Yanchuk began recruiting men of draft age so that, based on false information regarding their employment at Rivneteploenergo LLC, they could evade mobilization.

Another participant was involved in the scheme, against whom a pre-trial investigation is being conducted in a separate criminal proceeding.

Yanchuk transferred money to him for processing the documents.

According to the court verdict, there are three known instances of this. The amounts of money that Yanchuk received from conscripts and then transferred to another participant in the scheme were $200, $500, and $3,200.

Yanchuk was detained in late 2024 during his fourth attempt to negotiate with a conscript, offering monetary compensation to falsify employment records necessary for further evasion of mobilization.

The court approved the plea agreement between the prosecutor and the suspect, sentenced Yanchuk to five years in prison, and suspended his sentence with a one-year probation period.
