Ukrainian farmers need more than 200 billion hryvnias to plant winter crops and pay landlessors. Denis Marchuk, deputy chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, made this statement in an interview with "Komersant Ukrainian".
“More than 200 billion hryvnias are needed for the winter crop planting season and to pay landlords for the use of their land,” Marchuk said.
The government has already begun supporting farmers through loan programs. According to Marchuk, in the first phase, the government allocated 21 billion hryvnia to cover producers’ loans under the “5–7–9%” program. A reduction in the interest rate from 15% to 10% is also planned, and the maximum amount of financing for a single legal entity can reach 90 million hryvnias.
According to the expert, the total amount of state support is expected to reach approximately 80 billion hryvnias by October.
At the same time, farmers are expecting additional funding from international partners. The Ministry of Agrarian Policy has appealed to the European Commission to allocate 220 million euros in grant aid.
“This way, we will have significantly more financial support. And this will enable us to get through the fall and early winter,” Marchuk noted.
According to him, a decision on EU aid is expected in August.
