A Ukrainian man was detained in Warsaw after catching a legendary long-lived catfish

In Warsaw, police detained a 57-year-old Ukrainian citizen suspected of involvement in the capture of a large catfish from a lake in the Gozław area. The fish, measuring 183 centimeters in length, had lived in the body of water for over 20 years and was well known to local residents.

According to Polish media, the caught catfish was a local “legend.” The fish had lived in the body of water for about two decades and had been spotted by local residents on numerous occasions.
Local fishermen had caught this catfish before, but because of its famous status, they would always remove it from the hook and release it back into the water. This time, things turned out differently.
After being caught, according to eyewitnesses, the fish was placed in the trunk of a car without access to water and taken away in an unknown direction.

The story gained attention after posts and videos from the scene began appearing on social media. Users who claimed to have witnessed the incident stated that the men’s actions immediately sparked outrage among people at the lake.

The 7th District Police Headquarters in Warsaw reported that a man who may be involved in the case has already been detained. He turned out to be a 57-year-old Ukrainian citizen.
Currently, investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department are establishing all the circumstances of the incident. The police emphasized that it is too early to speak of the final legal consequences for the suspect.
