Ukraine’s steel industry earned 213 billion hryvnia: who was the leading exporter?
10 July 14:22
The Ukrainian steel industry remains a key export sector for the country. In 2025, the ten largest steel companies exported products worth 213.6 billion hryvnia, with a single company accounting for nearly half of that volume. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing a study by the analytical platform YC.Market.
Zaporizhstal Became the Undisputed Leader
According to the study, PJSC “Zaporizhstal” became Ukraine’s largest exporter.
The company exported products worth 101.2 billion hryvnia, which accounts for:
- 47% of the top 10 metallurgical exports;
- 45% of total exports from the metallurgy, woodworking, and paper industries.
The top three exporters also included:
- PJSC “Zaporizhstal”;
- Donbaske PTP LLC;
- PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.”
Together, they accounted for 162.2 billion UAH in exports, or 76% of the exports of the largest metallurgical companies.

What Products Does Ukraine Export?
The Ukrainian steel industry exports the following abroad:
- iron ore;
- pig iron;
- semi-finished steel products;
- hot-rolled steel.

Ukraine’s metallurgical exports in 2025 include goods at various stages of processing—from raw materials to products that can be used in manufacturing without further metallurgical processing.
Iron ore has the lowest level of processing—it is exported primarily to China, as well as to Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
Next in the chain are cast iron and semi-finished products made of unalloyed steel. Cast iron is purchased mainly by the United States and Italy, while semi-finished products are supplied to Bulgaria, Poland, and Turkey—countries where these products are used for further manufacturing.
A separate segment consists of hot-rolled flat products. These are further-processed products used in mechanical engineering, construction, and pipe manufacturing.
The main buyers of such rolled products are Poland, Bulgaria, Italy, and Slovenia.
The ten largest companies exported 213.6 billion UAH under the corresponding UKT ZED codes (2601, 7201, 7207, 7208). The top three—PJSC “Zaporizhstal,” Donbaske PTP LLC, and PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih—accounted for 162.2 billion UAH, or 76% of the top 10 metallurgical companies’ exports. The top five account for 190 billion UAH, or 88.8%.
