Ukrzaliznytsia JSC continues its systematic renewal of its passenger rolling stock, having announced a tender for the supply of another 10 new-generation passenger cars. This move by the company is part of a broader modernization program funded by the state budget.
The company announced this on Facebook, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
In 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia has already received nine new Ukrainian-made cars, which were immediately put into service.

“As a continuation of its annual renewal program, Ukrzaliznytsia is now announcing the purchase of 10 new-generation cars, which are larger in size and more efficient over their lifecycle. The new cars will serve for 20 years longer, have extended intervals between overhauls, and require fewer maintenance personnel,” the statement reads.
This transition to new-generation railcars began last year with a pilot batch of five railcars, and this year the procurement volume has been increased to ten. The expected cost of a single car will average 110 million UAH. Despite the higher nominal price, the cost of transporting a single passenger will remain at the same level thanks to the longer service life and optimized maintenance.
Future Plans and Challenges
Ukrzaliznytsia plans to continue modernizing its rolling stock by announcing new purchases of other types of cars. This is necessary given that, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian forces have completely destroyed 46 passenger cars. Another 200 cars and one Intercity train are awaiting repairs due to damage from shelling and drone strikes.

As a reminder, Ukrzaliznytsia previously warned that the 2026 summer season is expected to be more challenging than the previous one due to rising demand for passenger transport and a decrease in the number of passenger railcars.
According toUkrzaliznytsia, during the full-scale invasion, the Russians destroyed 46 railcars and damaged 200 units.
