Tomato Prices Are Falling in Ukraine: The Main Reasons
24 June 15:17
Ukrainian producers continued to lower prices for available tomato shipments throughout last week, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the project’s daily monitoring data, the start of mass sales of vegetables from summer greenhouses triggered another drop in prices for these products across virtually the entire country.

Under these conditions, attempts by local greenhouse farms to maintain previous price levels were accompanied by a slowdown in sales, forcing them to resort to price cuts. Thus, toward the end of last weekend, large greenhouse complexes were shipping tomatoes at 70–110 UAH/kg ($1.56–2.45/kg), which was on average 13% cheaper than at the end of the previous workweek.
Project experts attribute this price decline to a traditional seasonal phenomenon, as tomatoes from summer greenhouses begin flooding the market en masse every year in the second half of June. It is worth noting that during the same period last year, greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine were sold on average 23% cheaper than in the current season, as prices for local vegetables fell more significantly then than they have now.
