Diesel prices are falling in Ukraine: what’s happening in the market

25 June 18:11

The drop in wholesale prices for diesel fuel to 59–59.20 UAH/liter triggered another wave of price declines at Ukrainian gas stations. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Enkorr.

According to monitoring by the A-95 Consulting Group, on June 25, major retail chains lowered the price of diesel by 1 UAH/liter, while some regional operators, as predicted, went even further. Overall, the average retail price of diesel fuel fell by 85 kopecks per liter over the course of the day, to 77.17 UAH per liter.

OKKO, WOG, UKRNAFTA, and UPG undercharged by 1 UAH/liter on fuel. Prices also dropped by 1 hryvnia at KLO, Ovis, Dnipronafta, Autotrans, EURO5, ZOG, Green Wave, and Factor.

“Rur Group” and “Katral” went a step further, lowering their prices by an average of 4.10 UAH/liter and 3 UAH/liter, respectively, to 75.89 UAH/liter and 71.99 UAH/liter.

The lowest fuel price among operators dropped to 70 UAH/liter (Faktor). Among gas stations, the price stood at 69.99 UAH/liter at a BRSM-Nafta station in the Odesa region.

Meanwhile, Grand Petrol maintains the highest price at 82.99 UAH/liter, remaining stable after a 2 UAH/liter drop earlier this week.

A new wave of price cuts was fueled by stable prices on the foreign market and a further decline in the wholesale segment. Earlier this week, wholesale fuel prices dipped below 60 UAH/liter and continued to fall. While on June 24 they came very close to 59 UAH/liter, today buyers are testing the 58.60 UAH/liter level. No transactions at these prices have been recorded yet, but the market is clearly preparing for a new round of declines.

As of 1:30 p.m. on June 25, diesel futures on the London Exchange were trading around $800/metric ton, which is $215/metric ton lower than at the beginning of the month.

Under current conditions, the potential for further declines in retail prices remains significant. Even after the latest adjustments, the spread between the wholesale and retail segments exceeds market averages. If international prices remain near current levels and wholesale prices drop to 58–59 UAH/liter, retail prices risk falling by at least another 1–2 UAH/liter in the near future.
