Carrot prices continue to fall in Ukraine: the main reasons

8 August 10:12

In Ukraine, wholesale prices for carrots have been falling for the second week in a row, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".

Market participants attribute this price situation to an oversupply of the product, while demand for these root vegetables remains relatively low.

Currently, most carrots are selling for 18–26 UAH/kg ($0.40–0.58/kg), which is on average 10% cheaper than a week earlier. Industry experts attribute the latest decline in selling prices in this segment to market oversupply of this product.

In addition, there is currently a significant decline in demand for carrots, while harvesting of this root vegetable is proceeding quite actively in virtually all regions of the country. Under these conditions, producers are forced to make concessions to buyers and lower their selling prices.

At the same time, despite yet another price drop in this segment, carrots in Ukraine are currently being sold at an average price twice as high as during the same period last year.
