Salaries at Ukrzaliznytsia Will Increase Starting September 1: Who Will Get a Raise and By How Much

Starting September 1, Ukrzaliznytsia employees will receive a 10–15% pay raise, depending on their position. The raise will apply to 150,000 employees. Mykola Kalashnyk, Minister of Recovery, Infrastructure, and Transport, announced this on Facebook, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to him, the funds will primarily be directed toward those who repair locomotives and railcars, restore infrastructure, and ensure train operations. He also announced the next phase of freight rate indexation
“We understand that this is not an easy decision for businesses. But the railways need resources for transportation, repairs, and recovery following Russian attacks. And just as importantly—for the people. The next phase of freight rate indexation is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027. This will make it possible to continue the phased adjustment of salaries next year,” he said.
The first phase of the indexation took effect on August 1 of this year. The order from the Ministry of Infrastructure provided for a 30% indexation and the standardization of tariffs for the transportation of empty railcars. This is the first revision of freight tariffs since 2022. The company explained this by the need to secure resources for recovery following enemy attacks.

Shelling of the Railroad
As a reminder, the railway has repeatedly been the target of precision strikes by the Russians. On the eve of August 13, the Russians carried out a precision strike on a passenger train locomotive in the Berezivsky District of the Odesa region.
According to Oleksandr Petrovsky, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia, the train engineer and his assistant were killed in the Russian strike.
Petrovsky explained that when a drone threat was detected, the monitoring team ordered the train to stop at the station—the train was pulling into the station to safely evacuate the passengers.
All 340 passengers and the train crew managed to evacuate. None of them were injured.
An investigation has been opened into a war crime that resulted in the loss of life (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
