Funds for Firewood and Gas in 2026: Who Needs to Submit a New Application

Ukrainians who heat their homes with stoves can apply for a subsidy to purchase firewood, other solid fuels, and liquefied gas for the 2026–2027 heating season. The estimated amount of assistance for firewood is 9,205.14 UAH, and residents of certain frontline areas may be eligible for up to 19,400 UAH under a separate program. This was reported by the Pension Fund of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
The main feature of this assistance is that it is not automatically renewed. Even if a family has previously received fuel subsidies, a new application must be submitted to qualify for the subsidy in 2026.
Who is eligible for a firewood subsidy
The subsidy may be granted to Ukrainian citizens, as well as to foreigners and stateless persons legally residing in the country. The primary criterion is that the household’s income is insufficient to cover the cost of fuel on its own.
This support is primarily intended for:
- internally displaced persons;
- residents of frontline and de-occupied territories;
- large families;
- single retirees;
- people with disabilities;
- other low-income households.
However, belonging to one of these categories does not automatically guarantee the receipt of benefits. The Pension Fund assesses the income and financial situation of each family.
For certain priority categories—including combat veterans, people with war-related disabilities, and family members of fallen defenders—the law may provide for special conditions for receiving benefits.
The main condition for receiving assistance
The residence must be heated by a solid-fuel stove. If the home is equipped with centralized, gas, or electric heating, a subsidy specifically for the purchase of firewood will not be granted.
The presence of stove heating must be indicated in the application and, if necessary, confirmed by a relevant document or information from the local government.
The subsidy is granted to one household once per calendar year.

How Much Can Be Paid for Firewood in 2026
The subsidy amount is calculated based on the solid fuel allowance and the family’s income.
In 2026, the following figures apply:
- solid fuel allowance—two metric tons per household;
- maximum cost per metric ton — 4,602.57 UAH;
- estimated cost of two metric tons — 9,205.14 UAH.
It is important to understand that 9,205.14 UAH is not a guaranteed payment for every family. This is the maximum estimated cost of the standard fuel allowance. The actual subsidy amount is determined on a case-by-case basis and depends on the household’s total income.
The lower a family’s income, the larger a portion of the standard fuel cost the government can cover.
Who is eligible for 19,400 UAH
For residents of frontline areas, a separate financial assistance program may be available for the purchase of solid heating fuel. With the participation of international humanitarian organizations, the amount of such a payment can be up to 19,400 UAH per household.
This assistance should not be confused with the standard housing subsidy provided by the Pension Fund. It has its own:
- list of eligible areas;
- vulnerability criteria;
- deadlines for submitting information;
- selection process for recipients;
- sources of funding.
Living in a frontline community does not in itself guarantee payment. The final list of recipients is determined based on the terms of the specific program and available funding.
How Much Is Paid for Liquefied Gas
Households that use bottled liquefied gas for domestic purposes may also receive a subsidy.
The estimated amounts depend on the number of people:
- for one or two people—up to 920.52 UAH;
- for three or four people—up to 1,380.78 UAH;
- for five or more people—up to 1,841.04 UAH.
The maximum cost of a single cylinder, which is taken into account in the calculation, is 460.26 UAH. As with firewood, the actual amount of the subsidy will depend on the family’s income.
What documents do you need to prepare?
To apply for the subsidy, you must submit:
- An application for a housing subsidy.
- A declaration of household income and expenses.
- A passport or other form of identification.
- Taxpayer identification number.
- Bank account information in IBAN format.
- Information or a document confirming that the residence has stove heating.
Depending on the circumstances, additional documents may be required. For example, a residential lease agreement, certificates confirming the actual place of residence of household members, or documents confirming income that are not available in government registries.
How to Apply for a Subsidy
You can apply for the subsidy remotely or in person.
Online applications are accepted:
- through the Pension Fund of Ukraine’s e-services web portal;
- via the Pension Fund of Ukraine’s mobile app;
- through the “Diya” portal, if the relevant e-service is available.
To submit an online application, you will need a qualified electronic signature, BankID, or another approved method of identification.
You can submit documents offline:
- at a Pension Fund service center;
- through the Administrative Services Center;
- to an authorized representative of the local community;
- by mail to the address of the relevant Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) office.
When will the funds be received?
According to the Pension Fund, the application is reviewed within 10 business days after receipt of the complete set of documents and required information.
If errors are found during the review or if information is missing, the applicant may be asked to provide additional documents. Once a positive decision is made, the fuel subsidy is paid as a one-time payment to the recipient’s bank account.
Why it’s better to apply now
Although you can apply for assistance throughout the year, applying early offers a practical advantage. Your family will be able to purchase fuel in advance and avoid being affected by the fall price increases, delivery delays, and a potential shortage of firewood in the community.
In addition, submitting documents before the start of the heating season allows time to correct errors or obtain any missing certificates.
