Following its failure in European competition, “Dynamo” may fire head coach Igor Kostyuk, according to “Tatotake, “ as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
“Igor Kostyuk and his coaching staff will lead the Kyiv team in the third round of the UPL against Kolos (on Sunday, August 16). All further decisions regarding the position of Dynamo’s head coach will be made next week following discussions and consultations between club officials and the Kyiv team’s current head coach, as well as, possibly, potential candidates for the position,” the report states.
As a reminder, Dynamo lost to Qarabağ in the third qualifying round of the Conference League.
The Kyiv club failed to advance to the main round of the Conference League.
On Thursday, August 13, Kyiv’s Dynamo, which had been eliminated from the Europa League, played the second leg of the third qualifying round of the Conference League against Azerbaijan’s Karabakh.
The first match between the teams took place on August 6 in Poland and ended with a narrow 1-0 victory for the “White-and-Blues.”
The hosts got off to a strong start at the Tofig Bakhramov Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan, quickly opening the scoring and leveling the aggregate score in the two-leg series.
After that, the teams exchanged several dangerous attacks, and at the start of the second half, the Kyiv side began to play more aggressively—Brazhko and Ponomarenko failed to capitalize on their chances, while Dubinchak scored a goal from a slight offside position.
However, in the 69th minute, “Qarabağ” capitalized on their chance when Oleksiy Kashchuk, a former Ukrainian player for Donetsk’s “Shakhtar,” scored off a cross from the left flank.
Toward the end of the match, Oleksiy Sych had a chance to send the game into extra time, but his header from a corner kick went wide of the goal.
Thus, Dynamo concluded its international campaign for this season, failing to advance to the main stage of European club competition.
Kostyuk has been leading Dynamo since last November, following the resignation of Oleksandr Shovkovskyi.

Ihor Kostyuk, a product of the Dynamo youth academy
According to the team’s official website, Ihor Kostyuk is a product of Dynamo’s youth academy. As a midfielder, he played for Kyiv’s Dynamo from 1992 to 1997 (and again in 2000). After retiring as a player, he worked for the Ukrainian Football Federation, where he taught at the UAF Licensing Center and administered exams for candidates seeking a UEFA “B” license. He has been coaching at Dynamo since 2012.
Starting with the 2015–2016 season, he served as assistant head coach of Dynamo’s U-19 team.
Starting with the 2016–2017 season, he served as assistant head coach of Dynamo’s U-21 team.
Since the 2017–2018 season, he has served as head coach of Dynamo’s U-19 team. During this time, on four occasions—at the end of the 2017–2018, 2018–2019, 2023–2024, and 2024–2025 seasons— — he led the “White-and-Blues” to gold medals in the youth championship.
On November 27, 2025, he was appointed acting head coach of Dynamo’s first team. On December 17, 2025, he was appointed head coach of Dynamo’s first team without the “acting” designation.
Under Igor Kostyuk’s leadership, the “White-and-Blues” won the 2025–2026 Ukrainian Cup, defeating “Chernihiv” 3–1 in the final.
