The Ukrainian men’s national ice hockey team has advanced to the elite division of the Ice Hockey World Championship after finishing second in Group A of Division I. This was reported by the official website of the Ukrainian Ice Hockey Federation, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
This became possible after Poland and Lithuania tied 1-1 in regulation time during the final round of matches. Ultimately, the Lithuanians snatched a victory in overtime, so the Poles, despite being the favorites in the match, were unable to catch up to the Ukrainian team in the standings.

At this year’s World Championship, coach Dmitry Khristich’s team lost to Poland (2-3) in the opening round, but then defeated Lithuania (2-1) and France (3-2), lost to Kazakhstan in a shootout (4-5), and beat Japan (3-1).
It should be noted that Ukraine last played in the elite division of the World Championship in 2007. At that time, the “blue-and-yellows” finished in last place (16th) at the world championship in Russia.
It should be added that Ukraine has competed in the top division of the World Hockey Championship for a total of nine seasons. Our national team’s best result was a 9th-place finish at the 2002 World Championship.
The 2027 World Championship in the top division will be hosted by the German cities of Düsseldorf and Mannheim. The tournament will take place from May 14 to 30.
