Attack on Kyiv on July 2: 13 dead, 86 injured — harrowing footage of the destruction

As a result of Russia’s massive combined attack on Kyiv on the night of July 2, the death toll has risen to 13. At least 86 residents of the capital were injured, 70 of whom were hospitalized. Up-to-the-minute information is being published by Vitali Klitschko, the Kyiv City Military Administration, the Kyiv City State Administration, and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
A search-and-rescue operation is underway in the Darnytskyi district, where a nine-story residential building was partially destroyed. People may still be trapped under the rubble, so final figures on the impact of the strike are still being verified.
The Russian attack damaged more than 20 residential buildings. Rescuers continue to work at at least 15 locations across various districts of the capital.
How many people were killed and injured in Kyiv
As of 8:59 a.m. on July 2, the following figures were reported:
- 13 fatalities;
- 86 injured;
- 70 hospitalized;
- dozens of residents rescued;
- people who were still being searched for under the rubble.
The death toll rose throughout the morning as rescue workers searched damaged buildings and cleared the rubble.
The most critical situation remained in the Darnytskyi district, where part of a high-rise building had been destroyed.
Searches are underway for people trapped under the rubble in the Darnytskyi district
In the Darnytskyi district, a Russian strike destroyed part of a nine-story residential building.
Rescuers managed to save 17 people at this location. Seven of them were extracted from the damaged section of the building.
At the same time, reports were coming in about people who may be missing. The search and rescue operation is ongoing
The following units are working at the scene:
- State Emergency Service units;
- K-9 units;
- medical personnel;
- psychologists;
- police officers;
- utility and emergency services;
- heavy engineering equipment.








More than 20 residential buildings were damaged
According to police and city authorities, more than 20 residential buildings were damaged in Kyiv as a result of the Russian attack.
Destruction, fires, and falling debris were reported in many areas of the capital.
Damaged:
- high-rise buildings;
- private homes;
- a hotel;
- medical facilities;
- warehouse facilities;
- cars;
- non-residential premises;
- roofs and building facades.
The State Emergency Service continued to operate at 15 main locations.










What damage occurred in the Darnytskyi District
The Darnytskyi district suffered some of the most extensive damage.
The following structures were damaged there:
- a five-story residential building;
- a nine-story building;
- the upper floors of a 16-story building;
- private residential buildings;
- cars and nearby structures.
Part of the nine-story building’s structure collapsed. Rescuers are clearing the debris by hand and with the help of specialized equipment, checking for possible cavities.
Aid stations have been set up for residents of the area at:
- 27-A Novodarnytska Street;
- 23 Yalinkova Street.
At these centers, residents can receive counseling, file property damage claims, and learn about available assistance.
Consequences in the Shevchenkivskyi District
In the Shevchenkivskyi District, a fire broke out on the shared roof of a seven-story residential building and a hotel.
At other locations, the following were reported:
- the collapse of a five-story building;
- a fire in a five-story residential building;
- a fire in a three-story non-residential building;
- damage to a medical facility;
- damage to an emergency medical services substation.
Among the victims are medical personnel and ambulance drivers.

Two command centers have been opened for affected residents:
- 14 Oleksandr Dovzhenko Street, Kindergarten No. 112;
- 86 Brest Avenue, School No. 73.

What Happened in the Holosiivskyi District
In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out on the mechanical floor of a 16-story residential building.
A mobile command center has been set up near the damaged building, where residents are being advised by representatives of city services.
The main assistance center is located at 12 Holosiivska Street, Lyceum No. 241 “Holosiivskyi.”

Damage in the Pecherskyi District
A nine-story residential building was destroyed in the Pechersk district.
A fire also broke out on the first and second floors of the building. The fire covered an area of approximately 200 square meters.
Rescue workers managed to evacuate one person from the danger zone.
Fires and Damage in Other Districts
As a result of the attack, damage was also reported in the Obolon, Svyatoshyn, and Desniansky districts.
Obolon District
A fire broke out on the premises of a warehouse complex.
The victim was taken to the nearest fire station, where rescuers provided him with first aid.
Svyatoshyn District
Two private residential buildings were damaged.
Rescuers inspected the site for possible fires, assessed the condition of the structures, and checked for hazardous debris.
Desnianskyi District
A nine-story residential building was damaged.
Emergency services inspected the apartments and the surrounding area.
About 500 rescue workers were deployed to address the aftermath.
Nearly 500 State Emergency Service personnel were deployed for emergency rescue operations in Kyiv.
They also used 96 units of fire and rescue equipment and specialized vehicles.








Rescuers are:
- are clearing debris;
- extinguishing fires;
- freeing residents;
- inspecting damaged apartments;
- check buildings for the risk of collapse;
- help evacuate people;
- hand over the injured to medical personnel.
Psychologists from the State Emergency Service provided assistance to more than 50 residents at the two hardest-hit locations.
A total of 34 people were rescued
According to one of the State Emergency Service’s morning reports, 34 people were rescued during operations in high-rise apartment buildings and private homes.
Rescuers led some residents out of smoke-filled or damaged buildings. Others had to be freed after structural collapse.

Public transportation has gradually resumed service
Following morning restrictions, a number of public transportation routes have resumed service in Kyiv.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the following trolleybus routes have resumed service:
- No. 6;
- No. 16;
- No. 18;
- No. 19;
- No. 23;
- No. 28;
- No. 31;
- No. 33;
- No. 35.
Tram service has also resumed on the following lines:
- No. 11;
- No. 12;
- No. 14;
- No. 15;
- No. 16;
- No. 18;
- No. 19.
At the same time, localized road closures and route changes may remain in effect near the damaged buildings.
Some roads in Kyiv remain closed
Due to emergency services’ operations, the police have temporarily restricted traffic on a number of streets.
The closures affected, in particular:
- Boryspilskaya;
- Novodarnytska;
- Veresneva;
- Ihor Kachurovsky Lane;
- two sections of Beresteysky Avenue;
- Taras Shevchenko Boulevard;
- Mark Vovchok Street, John Paul II Street, and Verbova Street.
