Explosions were heard in Kyiv: drone debris fell in two districts, and a fire broke out

On the evening of July 1, a series of explosions rocked Kyiv during an attack by Russian strike drones. Air defense forces engaged enemy targets on the outskirts of the capital and directly over the city. This was reported by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
As a result of the attack, debris from the drones was found in at least two districts of Kyiv.
In the Desnianskyi district, debris from a Russian drone fell near a private home.
According to preliminary information:
- no fire broke out;
- there were initially no reports of damage to the residential building;
- emergency services were assessing the potential consequences.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, debris fell onto the grounds of a non-residential building.

According to the mayor, the roof of a three-story non-residential building was on fire.
The following units arrived at the scene:
- State Emergency Service units;
- medical personnel;
- police;
- other emergency services.
Rescue workers began extinguishing the fire and surveying the area.
City authorities did not specify the exact area affected by the fire or the extent of the damage in their initial reports.
As of the time of the first official reports, there were no reports of fatalities or injuries in Kyiv.
City authorities urged Kyiv residents not to leave their shelters until the air raid alert was officially lifted.
Drones were approaching Kyiv from several directions
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, reported that Russian drones were moving toward the capital from several directions.
According to him, there was a possibility that attack drones would continue moving toward Kyiv, and the attack could take place in several stages.
“Residents of Kyiv, air defense units are currently engaging enemy targets on the outskirts of the capital. There is a possibility that attack drones will continue moving toward the capital,” warned the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

He also did not rule out a combined attack in the coming days.
Air defense systems were active in the capital
The explosions heard by Kyiv residents were related to air defense forces engaging Russian aerial targets.
City authorities emphasized that during air defense operations, the danger comes not only from direct drone strikes but also from falling debris.
Even after a drone is destroyed, its parts can:
- damage a building’s roof or facade;
- cause a fire;
- fall onto cars;
- damage power lines;
- injure people on the street.
That is why, during an alert, you should not stand near windows, on balconies, or outdoors.
Before the attack, Zelenskyy warned of a dangerous night
A few hours before the explosions, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian intelligence had information that Russia was preparing a new massive strike.
The president warned of a particularly high threat on the night of July 2 and urged citizens to be cautious.
“I urge our people to be especially careful, to protect themselves, their children, and their families, and to take shelter,” Zelenskyy said.
WOG Closes Gas Stations Due to Threat of Attack
Following Zelenskyy’s warning, the WOG gas station chain is urgently closing all its stations in Kyiv and several regions.
The gas stations will be closed:
- from 11:00 p.m. on July 1;
- until 7:00 a.m. on July 2;
- for a total of eight hours.
The company attributed the decision to a possible large-scale attack and the need to protect employees and customers.
