100,000 Customers Without Power: Major Outage in Chernihiv

On the evening of August 11, Chernihiv and part of the Chernihiv district experienced a large-scale power outage. About 100,000 customers were left without power. Utility workers have already begun restoration efforts, but the cause of the outage and the estimated time for power to be restored have not yet been announced. This was reported by JSC “Chernihivoblenergo, ” according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the company, utility workers are already working to restore power. However, the initial report did not specify which towns and districts of Chernihiv were affected by the outage.
Chernihivoblenergo has not yet identified the cause of the large-scale power outage. It is also unknown at which specific power facility the accident occurred and how long it will take to fully restore power.
Therefore, reports that the current power outage was allegedly caused by Russian shelling have not yet been officially confirmed.
Are power outage schedules in effect?
This is specifically an emergency power outage, not the implementation of hourly or emergency power rationing schedules for the public.
This means that:
- the outage was not planned in advance;
- the addresses may not have been included in the hourly schedule;
- it is difficult to predict the exact time when power will be restored until diagnostics are complete;
- power may be restored in stages as emergency switching and repairs are carried out.
On the morning of August 11 , Ukrenergo reported that there was no need to impose nationwide consumption restrictions. Therefore, the widespread power outage in Chernihiv is a localized emergency.

When Will Power Be Restored?
The company has not yet announced an estimated time for restoring power. Utility workers must first determine the location and nature of the damage, and then perform the necessary switching or repair work.
Power may not be restored simultaneously for all 100,000 customers. Typically, after major outages, customers are reconnected gradually—depending on the condition of the grid and the ability to supply power via backup lines.
Residents are advised to check for updates on the progress of the work:
- on the official “Chernihivoblenergo” Telegram channel;
- on the company’s website;
- on local government pages;
- through power outage check services linked to their personal accounts.
Large-scale power outages have already occurred in the Chernihiv region
Recently, Chernihiv and the region have repeatedly experienced major power outages. Specifically, on August 9, an accident at a power facility left approximately 99,000 customers in the Chernihiv and Koryukivka districts without electricity.
In July, significant power outages in the region were also caused by damage to power facilities from Russian attacks. However, the cause of the new accident on August 11 may be different—there are no official conclusions from power utility officials yet.
