Imports of high-octane A-98/100 gasoline could rise to a record high: the main reasons
11 August 20:12
According to results for the first half of 2026, imports of high-octane A-98/100 gasoline into Ukraine totaled nearly 20,000 metric tons, a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. This is reported in an enkorr article titled “Octane During the War: Who Sells A-98/100 Gasoline in Ukraine and How,” as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
If the current trend continues, annual imports could set a new record. The previous record was set in 2025, when 45,000 metric tons of A-98/100 were imported into Ukraine. This is nearly double the pre-war level of 2021, when A-98 consumption stood at about 24,000 metric tons.

As noted in the article, all high-octane gasoline on the Ukrainian market is of European origin. The main sources of supply are Poland, Germany, and Lithuania. In particular, UPG exclusively imports A-100 from Germany and accounts for about 75% of supplies of this specific grade.
One of the factors driving the growth in demand was the introduction of mandatory bioethanol blending in gasoline. Last year, some motorists began switching to A-98/100, which was exempt from this requirement. In July 2025, imports of high-octane gasoline reached a record 6,000 metric tons—31% more than in June and 2.3 times more than in July 2024.
The rise in demand prompted fuel retailers to expand their A-98/100 offerings. In particular, OKKO, UKRNAFTA, and VostokGaz began selling high-octane gasoline, while WOG increased the number of stations offering A-100.
“After the introduction of E5, we received many inquiries from customers looking for fuel without bioethanol or A-100 gasoline for cars with powerful engines. This was the reason for launching Pulls100,” the OKKO press office noted.
This year, the segment received an additional boost from the introduction of E10 gasoline on July 1. According to OKKO, Pulls100 currently accounts for 6% of the network’s total cash sales of all gasoline grades.
Despite the rapid expansion of the product offering, A-98/100 remains a niche product. According to enkorr’s estimates, its sales for chains currently serve more as a branding tool, since the margin does not differ significantly from that of A-95, while sales volumes of the base gasoline are approximately ten times higher.
