U.S. delegation will not travel to Iran: Trump has made the decision

25 April 21:15

The U.S. has canceled the planned trip by Special Envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Pakistan for talks with Iran. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing Axios and a statement by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Reasons for the cancellation

“The American delegates were supposed to meet in Islamabad with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to break the diplomatic deadlock,” the publication wrote.

However, the Iranian side demanded the lifting of the naval blockade as a precondition for negotiations, and Araghchi himself left Pakistan without agreeing to meet with Trump’s envoys.

The U.S. president explained his decision by saying that the issues could be discussed over the phone.

“I don’t see the point of sending them on an 18-hour flight in the current situation. That’s too long. We can do this just as well over the phone. The Iranians can call us if they want,” Trump said.

Internal strife in Iran

Trump also drew attention to the disorganization within the Iranian leadership.

According to him, internal strife is ongoing in Tehran, hindering productive dialogue.

“There is tremendous internal strife and confusion within their ‘leadership.’ No one knows who is in charge, including themselves. We hold all the cards, and they hold none,” he wrote on his social media account.

Escalation in U.S.-Iran Relations

As a reminder, tensions between the two countries have been rapidly escalating recently.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has intensified its mining of the Strait of Hormuz, a move being closely monitored by the U.S. military.

In response to these actions, Donald Trump ordered the Navy to fire upon ships involved in mining the strait as part of a strategy to reduce Iranian oil exports.

The U.S. president also does not rule out the possibility of limited military strikes against Iran in addition to a naval blockade.
