What’s happening with exchange rates at currency exchange offices
The NBU’s official exchange rate differs from the cash rate, which is the rate at which Ukrainians actually buy and sell currency at banks and exchange offices.
According to the “Minfin” portal, on August 11, average exchange rates at Ukrainian currency exchange offices were approximately as follows:
| Currency | Buy | Sale |
|---|---|---|
| Dollar | 44.76 UAH | 44.95 UAH |
| Euro | 51.70 UAH | 51.90 UAH |
| Zloty | 11.85 UAH | 11.98 UAH |
Thus, the dollar in the cash market is already approaching 45 UAH on the sell side, while the euro is approaching 52 UAH.
What exchange rates have banks set for the dollar and the euro?
At the teller windows of major Ukrainian banks, foreign currency is traditionally priced higher than the NBU’s official exchange rate.
As of August 11, the dollar is selling for approximately 45.10–45.15 UAH, while the selling rate for the euro at some banks reaches 52.35 UAH.
Specifically:
| Bank | Dollar, buy/sell | Euro, buy/sell | Zloty, buy/sell |
| PrivatBank | 44.50 / 45.10 | 51.25 / 52.25 | 11.65 / 12.20 |
| Oschadbank | 44.55 / 45.15 | 51.35 / 52.35 | — |
| PUMB | 44.55 / 45.15 | 51.40 / 52.30 | 11.80 / 12.10 |
| Ukrgasbank | 44.55 / 45.15 | 51.40 / 52.35 | 11.50 / 12.20 |
| Raiffeisen Bank | 44.65 / 45.10 | 51.35 / 52.25 | 11.50 / 12.35 |
Thus, on August 11, the hryvnia weakened against the dollar, the euro, and the Polish zloty simultaneously. The biggest change was recorded against the euro, and for those buying currency at bank counters, the dollar now costs over 45 UAH, and the euro—over 52 UAH.
