The official exchange rate for the U.S. dollar is set at:

  • 1 U.S. dollar — 44.90 UAH.

  • buying rate — 11.60 UAH;
  • sell rate — 12.45 UAH.

Before exchanging currency, it’s worth comparing offers from several institutions, as the difference can be significant.

Why the official exchange rate differs from the cash rate

The NBU’s official exchange rate is used for accounting, tax, customs, and other calculations.

Banks and currency exchange offices set their own cash rates, taking into account:

  • supply and demand;
  • the cost of acquiring cash currency;
  • the situation on the interbank market;
  • operating costs;
  • currency risks;
  • the bank’s own margin.

That is why the selling rate for cash dollars or euros is usually higher than the National Bank’s official rate.
